Khaleda's sentence increased 10 years
The High Court has upheld the sentence of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from five to ten years in Zia Orphanage case. The other accused have been kept for 10 years in jail.
Tuesday morning Justice M Inayatur Rahim and Justice Md. The High Court bench of Mostafizur Rahman gave the verdict.
After taking the seat at around 10:30 am, the court said, the effective part of the verdict was announced. Three appeals (Khaleda Zia, former MP Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed) were dismissed. The rule of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has been declared as a rule of revision. Khaleda Zia's sentence was extended to 10 years in jail.
The verdict has resulted in the execution of Salimul Haque and Sharfuddin Ahmed for 10 years.
Meanwhile, in front of the judgment declaration, there was additional security in front of the 17th cell of the extended building of Supreme Court since morning.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Additional Attorney General Murad Reza, Momtaz Uddin Fakir, Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Debnath, Farhad Ahmed, Ekramul Huq and law officers were present during the verdict.

The lawyers, AJ Mohammad Ali, Zainul Abedin, Abdur Rezak Khan, and lawyers participating in the hearing were not seen in the court room.
Khurshid Alam Khan told reporters after the verdict, Begum Zia was the main accused in the case. The ground was demanded to increase its punishment. The court granted Khaleda Zia's sentence up to five years from 10 years to 10 years. As a result, the defendants of the case are 10 years old. The defendants who were on bail were rejected.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said that the sentence of Khaleda Zia has proved to be the main accused in the testimony, therefore she has been given 10 years imprisonment. He can not be selected if the sentence is not canceled. The other accused have been granted 10 years' imprisonment.

Khaleda Zia's lawyers appealed to her to get rid of the appeal. On the other hand ACC lawyer Khaleda Zia sought life imprisonment. And the prosecution argued for the prosecution of five years judicial court.
The bench of the seven-member Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain dismissed the petition seeking extension of time to settle the appeal of the High Court.
As a result, the appeal hearing has to be concluded by October 31.
Apart from this, the order of Khaleda Zia, which has been kept in the High Court for additional evidence to prove the source of the money, has also been asked to settle within one day.
But after the order of the Appellate Division, the High Court bench on Tuesday fixed the date for the verdict on Monday. Advocate Aj Mohammad Ali and Zainul Abedin appeared before the appeals division on Monday for Khaleda Zia.
Barrister M Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Barrister Badruddoza Badal, Barrister Nowshad Zamir, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Advocate Faruk Hossain and Barrister Ehsanur Rahman were present. Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan was on behalf of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.
Judge of the fifth Special Judge Court of Dhaka. Akhtaruzzaman gave Khaleda Zia five years' rigorous imprisonment on February 8 in the verdict of the case.
Besides, BNP acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman,Magura's former MP Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal, businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed, Kamal Uddin Siddiqui and Mominur Rahman were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. After this, Khaleda's lawyers appealed on February 20 in the relevant branch of the High Court.
On February 22, the High Court suspended Khaleda's sentence for hearing on appeal. Then on 7 March the appeal of Qazi Salimul Haque Kamal of the other accused was also accepted for hearing. On March 28, the High Court issued a rule on the appeal filed by the ACC to raise the punishment of Khaleda Zia.
Within four weeks, the state and Khaleda Zia were asked to respond to that rule. However, the court said, the hearing on the rule will be with Khaleda Zia's appeal.
The court said in the order, the ACC demanded discussion and interpretation of the case, whether the ACC can make such a revision or appeals ACC, who is aggrieved by the verdict of the trial. On May 10, the court accepted another appeal of Sharfuddin for hearing. The hearing began on July 12 and the rule began.
