UN resigns as head of UN environment program

Eric Solheim, head of the United Nations Environment Program, spent 4.44 million euros on air travel alone. He had to resign on account of the extra burden on travel expenses.

Eric Solaim conveyed his resignation to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Gutures took the resignation Tuesday. Since 2016, Norwegian citizen Eric Salem was serving as head of the United Nations Environment Program. 63-year-old Salem's recent travel fare recently came under criticism.

Many have said instead of heading the United Nations Environment Program, Eric Solheim has increased anomalies instead of reducing carbon dioxide emissions due to extra air travel.

According to the UN's income-expenditure report, Eric Solheim, the first 22 months of taking responsibility, spent 4.44 million euros only for air travel.

Already warned about this expenditure, Salem did not take it into practice. Apart from this, he could not show enough evidence about how many were officially in these trips. Sweden and Denmark closed their donations in this sector due to this incident.

Two weeks later, Jones Masua, deputy Tanzania's resident of Erich Salem, who will serve as the acting chief of the United Nations Environment Program at the climate conference in Katowic, Poland, will be in the city.
