ECNEC approves record 24 projects
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the 24 development projects in the election rush. Among them, there are multi-sector projects to face the Rohingya crisis.
The implementation of the projects will cost 24 thousand 740 crore 66 lakhs Of this, 19 thousand 361 crore 96 lakhs from the government fund, 306 crore 4 lakhs from the implementing agency's own fund and 5.772 crore 66 lakhs will be spent from overseas assistance. The approval was given at the meeting held at the NEC conference room in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The Prime Minister and Ecnec Chairperson Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.
After the ECNEC meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal briefed the reporters. State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, member of the Department of General Economics (Senior Secretary) Shamsul Alam and members of the Planning Commission including members of the Department of Energy and Energy, Shamima Nargis were also present.
The minister said, during the Awami League government in the last 5 years, a total of 148 ECNEC meetings were held. These AKNKs approved 1,297 projects. The cost of implementing the projects is 14 lakh 86 thousand 127 crore.
The Planning Minister said, as long as the Rohingyas are in Cox's Bazar, their responsibility to look after their good and bad is their responsibility to look after their good and bad. We're making them stay good. When they return to Myanmar, local Bangladeshis will enjoy the benefits of these infrastructure. Because they have suffered a lot due to the Rohingyas.
The multi-sector project will be implemented at a cost of Taka 577.84 crore in the face of emergency on the Rohingya crisis. Of this, 9 crore 56 lakhs will be spent from the government fund and 1 billion 48 million 28 lakh taka from World Bank grants. This year will be implemented in 2021. The project area is Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas of Cox's Bazar district.
Under the project, the construction of roads, footpaths, lights, hats, communication, roads, bridges, cyclone shelters, multipurpose community centers, fire extinguishers etc. will be built on an urgent basis for drinking water, health and sanitation for Rohingyas, shelter camps inside the shelter camp.
Regarding another project, the minister said the DGFI is going on in an analog manner. The DGFI Strengthening Project has been approved to digitize them. There are many bad apps on Facebook.
I do not know how the next generation will digest these things. Many rumors are spread on Facebook. The law has been enacted. DGFI is being strengthened to implement the law. We hope that criminal activities, including cybercrime and militancy, will come down.
He said that ECNEC has ordered the use of new technology in post offices in different post offices including e-commerce and other new initiatives. The Prime Minister said, all the police will have to make gradual housing arrangements for the police. He has ordered to construct a 10-storey building in each district.
The projects approved for Ekken are: Construction of new Dual Gauge railway line from Bogra to Shaheed M Mansur Ali station - Sirajganj, will cost Tk 5,579 crore.
Besides, construction of new railway line from Ishwardi to Pabna and Dhalarchar (second revised), costing Tk 1,737 crore Gazipur City Corporation's internal roads, drainage and footpath construction, costing Tk 1,510 crore, construction of roads and sewage and footpath in different areas of Dhaka North City Corporation, and development of road safety, cost Tk. 694 crores. DGFI telecommunications and ICT infrastructure, development of human resources and technical capacity, costing Tk. 272 crore
Major road widening from Madani Avenue to the Balu river and construction of roads for the Shitalakshya river from the river Balu (1st phase), costing Tk 1,259.98 crore, Construction of 20-storied new office building at Bangladesh Secretariat, cost Tk 42.29 crore, Karnaphuli bridge Construction (third revised), cost 797 crore 94 lakh taka
RAJUK Purbachal 300 feet highway to link road up to Madani Avenue-Sylhet highway, cost Tk 456.77 million Development and expansion of the post office's physical infrastructure, cost Tk 479.86 million Preservation and development of Shaheed Muktijoddha and other war veterans, cost Tk. 460 crore 98 lakhs
Construction of 9 residential towers in different places of Bangladesh for Bangladesh Police, cost 927 crores National Academy for Autism and Neuro Developmental Disabilities (second revised), 422 crore Establishment of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Meritime University's permanent campus, costing Tk. 183.97 million
