In the Refugee Camp in Central African Republic, 40 killed
A regional lawmaker has said more than 40 people have been killed in a refugee camp conducted by the Catholic mission in the Central African Republic.
The incident took place on Thursday in Alinada town, about 300 kilometers east of the country's capital, Banugu, Reuters reported.
It is known that 20 thousand refugees took shelter in the Refugee Camp in the city run by the Catholic mission. Many more people were injured in the attack.
The United Nations said thousands of refugees fled the camp if the attackers set the camp on fire.
Alinada's lawmaker Ethien Godenha told Reuters, "So far we have counted 42 bodies, but we are still looking for others. The camp has been burnt, people fled to the jungle or to other refugee camps of the city. "
Reuters confirmed that more than 40 people have been killed in a suicide attack by a rescue organization.
In a statement in the Central African Republic, UN Human Resource Coordinator Rachid said in a statement: "This repeated attack of civilians against un civilians is unacceptable."
In 2013, mainly the Muslim Selaka rebels ousted the then President Francois Bosejz from power, and their fight against Christian Anti-Balaka militias was mounted. In this fight, thousands of people were killed and one fifth of the country's 4.5 million people fled the house.
Political instability prevails in the country after being elected a new president in 2016, and communal attacks and counter-attacks are underway.
