Facebook has sought information from Bangladesh
Facebook has increased the number of information sought by Bangladesh government. Facebook has been providing more information to Bangladesh than ever before. This information was given in the latest Transparency Report on Facebook. The report from January to June this year is presented in the report.
Facebook's latest Transparency Report, published on Thursday, found that Facebook responded to the requests of the government and provided information in 57 percent of the cases. After analyzing the trend of the past few years, it has been found that the number of information on the Bangladesh government increased from the successive Facebook side. At the same time, the government has increased the request to Facebook for information.
According to Facebook's Transparency Report, the amount of information sought from January to June this year is highest in the period. In April 2016, Facebook authorities responded with requests from the government of Bangladesh asking for user information for the first time. From the July 2015 to December 2015, the publication of the Facebook report was released on April 28 of that year. Since then, Facebook authorities publish Transparency Reports every six months. It is highlighted in the report about what kind of request the government has given to Facebook. However, no account information is sought, it is not mentioned.
According to the Facebook report this year, a total of 152 requests from the government of Bangladesh have been made to Facebook. 134 urgent requests and 18 legal requests. About 205 users or Facebook account information is asked for information. Facebook provided information in 57 percent of the cases. In this case, 61 percent of emergency cases and 28 percent of the information was provided in the legal field.
Earlier, in December last year, on the request of 95 accounts for 60 requests, Facebook responded 47 percent. The request for legal process is 17. 59 account information is requested for emergency 43 requests.
The government had asked 44 accounts for the six months of January-June this year. Facebook authorities provided 45 percent of the information requested by the government. Bangladesh government has requested 49 requests from July to December of 2016. It asked for 57 account-related information. Facebook provided 24.49 percent of the information about Bangladesh government's request. From January to June, 10 requests were made about nine accounts in that year. That means, in 2016, 59 requests were requested by the government of Bangladesh to Facebook.
In 2017, the government's request for Facebook stood at 104. Total account information is 139. That is, the government of Bangladesh has increased the request and request for account information in 2017 compared to 2016. But in the first six months of 2016, the record exceeded last year.
Facebook authorities say that requests from the government to get information from Facebook are increasing around the world. Facebook's request for Facebook increased by 26 percent compared to the second half of last year. In the second half of last year, where the request was 82 thousand 341, it increased to 1,03,815 in the year. In 2016, the total request was 1 lakh 23 thousand, it came in 2017 in 1 lakh 61 thousand 231.
In November 2015, the letter was sent to the social networking website Facebook, with an interest in discussing details, and the state minister for telecommunications Tarana Halim. On the letter, he told the media that in future, a letter has been sent to the Facebook authorities regarding the security of Bangladesh.
